I just set out a plate of dates and sweets when the doorbell rang.
A past student of mine, now my dear friend, had stopped by for a visit… Even though it was a simple scene, I knew the Holy Spirit had set up something bigger. Something divine. My heart beat in eager anticipation. As we discussed various topics, the conversation switched gears and I felt the Holy Spirit’s nudge, I obeyed. Sharing about the truth of Jesus and how He is like a Shepherd calling him, my friend, to Himself, he listened. I shared about the crazy, unrelenting love of Jesus for him… his eyes, intent. I passed along a New Testament and sincerely encouraged him to read it and ask questions. His heart was open- even allowed me to pray over him and the Holy Spirit, oh, the beautiful Holy Spirit, He breathed on us. My friend looked up, beaming… The Love of Jesus, oh, His great love is alive! It fell like a pure waterfall over him, over us.
Later that evening, as I stood on stage, singing with a worship team, I felt the Holy Spirit again. His wind often comes like surprising kisses. I heard the words, “Higher and higher.” So I sang it out. Lifting Jesus higher and higher. Others joined the chorus. The wind blew across the room and hearts caught fire. Soon people were dancing, jumping and singing loud praise to our King, “We lift you higher and higher, we lift you higher and higher and higher!” The chorus resounded. I pictured a megaphone over the entire country.
My heart overflows today with thanks for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us, "I assure you, it would be better if I go away so the Companion can come to you." (John 16:7) The Holy Spirit. The Counselor. The Wind of His Power, His Love. I love Him.
"Awake, north wind, come, south Wind! Make my garden breathe out fragrance, let its spices be wafted abroad. May my Beloved come into His garden and eat its choice fruits."
(Song of Solomon 4:16)
